Letter from Robert Cormier to Fabio Coen 24 June 1973

Robert Cormier describes the major revisions made to The Chocolate War to Fabio Coen, his then editor at Pantheon Books. These revisions involved cutting a chapter and reducing the length of two early scenes that establish Jerry Renault’s heterosexuality and worldview. Other changes involved altering the representation of Brother Leon when in crisis and changing the location of the closing fight between Emile Janza and Jerry Renault.
